idols
Monotheists convinced the polytheists that since the representations of their gods (the idols) could be broken, then that meant that there was no god to protect his own representation.
That's why ALL representations of God should be considered blasphemous in all monotheisms (...), simply not to fall victim to their own devices.
But what the polytheists failed to notice was that a book is also an idol.
If the idols of the polytheists were supposed to be the physical representations of their gods, then the monotheist's book(s) is supposed to be God's spiritual representation, His word, His essence, which makes it the quintessence of God's representation...
If some polytheist or more probably a rival monotheist tears, burns, spits or urinates upon the quintessence of the one God's representation...
What would that mean?
It has happened so frequently...
It is even the favorite pass-time of fanatics...
